1907

In the last century, the Russian microbiologist and Nobel prize-winner Elie Metchnikoff observed how some nomadic tribes who feed on fermented milk were long-lived for that time. Metchnikoff noticed a correlation between their age and the fermented milk they drank. In 1907, he published the theory of longevity.
